Varangerhallen

Varangerhallen is a portrait series from Vadsø, Eastern Finnmark, Norway. A group of young asylum seekers is shown up close at soccer practice. These young men have escaped conflicts, and are alone, without family while awaiting the status of their refugee claims for residency in Norway. This series is part of a larger body of work that is engaged in personal collaborations with the individuals cared for, and housed by Oscarsgata Mottak, an asylum reception centre located in the arctic town of Vadsø. The project looks at these young men as subjects of forced migration and how they can help us to think about equality and to form understanding from their presence.
